David Lamotte

There are few times when I have felt the movement of God's Spirit as I did last night. Naturally, part of that was having David Lamotte lead our church in a funfilled and energized musical celebration. In an age where the act of gathering information is how we hope to discover the truth, music helps us to experience the truth as it is filtered through our life experience. What seemed truly amazing was that David's mixture of celebratory and meditative music was the reflection of human life: sometimes quietly reflective where words would only cage a transcendent experience of the Holy and sometimes outrageously celebratory where not enough words can be used to describe our amazing meeting with Jesus.

Unfortunately, I cannot remember the tune but in one of his songs, David describes a scene at a basketball game where a father cheers his basketball player son to win. It becomes clear that the father is trying to resurrect his own dead dreams by living through his son. I was struck by the truth that sometimes we try to live out our own broken dreams through other people, even family members.

The promise of Jesus Christ really squashes this idea that you have to be good enough for those who feel as though they have not done enough. Maybe what God requires of us is that we simply use all that God has created us to be, true to our calling, regardless of the pressures around us.
